Vacation-related excuses (or why you haven't heard from me more often of late)

Do you ever get so obsessed with vacation ruminations, as said vacation approaches, that all other thoughts (e.g., "What's the next blog topic?") get obliterated, or at least relegated to some less-active portion of the brain?

That's where I am at right now. Hence the recent dearth of blogginess on my part.

On Saturday, my two sons (ages 18 and 21) and I, plus our buddy Will, leave for an epic two weeks of hiking in the Eastern Sierras. We are staying in Mammoth Lakes, CA -- one of my favorite towns anywhere, and one hell of a great place, at about 8000 feet above sea level, to acclimatize for all the ensuing high-altitude hiking. It is a dudetrip of epic proportion. Hiking boots, bacon and awesomeness for all.

If we get lucky, we will even score permits to day-hike Mount Whitney, pictured below.

Either way, I suspect there will be some vacation-oriented blogification over the next couple weeks.

Enjoy, or ignore. Your call. Hiking boots hit the ground in only a few days....
